Went to a “doctor” who uses alternative medicine techniques. One of the ways he diagnoses problems is by reading your iris.. Is this a bunch of B.S. or is there any scientific truth to this?

I have heard of this for a few years now but have not tried it simply because I have not yet located such a doctor in my area. I would be more than willing to do so, given the fact that it is a non-invasive technique. I think there is some truth to the findings from this method.

Scientific truth is a strange expression to me.
There is no such thing as scientific truth. Only pseudoscientists use such expressions, a true scientist knows that very well.
Reading iris is a way you can get some information about the state of the client. But it’s difficult to learn from the books. Already people see different things, some people see energy and others don’t, so how could you teach this in an academic form?
So, it’s not bullshit, you can use it to diagnose, but there is maybe nothing scientific about it (as far as that is relevant information). -
Its called iridology, and its implausible bunk.
From Wiki:
“Critics, including most practitioners of mainstream medicine, dismiss iridology as published studies have indicated a lack of success for its claims. Clinical data does not support any correlation between illness in the body and coinciding observable changes in the iris. In controlled experiments,[2] practitioners of iridology have performed statistically no better than chance in determining the presence of a disease or condition solely through observation of the iris.”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iridology

EDIT: @misscpb, your answer is an argument from ignorance. Following your logic, we may as well believe in invisible pink unicorns. So why don’t iridologists get their own clinical trials done to prove efficacy? Because its snake oil quackery, that’s why. Often found at traveling shows. -

I believe this is true, science has always been an incorrect way of determining the truth as theories etc are always proved to be wrong as we have progressed in time throughout history. Where as ancient ways of healing are unique and timeless and at the moment its just not possible to science to have the ability to measure things it does not understand.

Basically it’s total BS.
Though real doctors can detect a few health issues by examining the eyes, the alt med iridology nonsense is completely ridiculous. Many of them have got this scam down to a fine art, even producing software that takes a picture of your eyes in close up. The more elaborate the hoax the more they fall for it…
